Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli (1980) joined OMA in January 2007 and became an Associate in 2010.
Pestellini has contributed to a vast number of architectural projects, including Aramco Cultural Center in Saudi Arabia, G-Star HQ in Amsterdam, the Taipei performing Arts Center, De Rotterdam, and the Mercati Generali in Rome.
Since 2008, Pestellini has been in charge of a range of Prada’s creative initiatives. His responsibilities encompass stage design for Prada and Miu Miu’s fashion shows, strategic conception and development of Prada’s online identity, special events and exhibitions, such as The 24h Museum in Paris, and a variety of publications including AMO*Prada look-books. He contributes to the curatorial development of Fondazione Prada, for which he has designed various exhibitions, such as “When attitudes become form, 1969/2013” in Venice.
Pestellini has developed several exhibitions and scenographic projects including OMA’s first classic drama scenography at the ancient Greek theater of Siracusa in Sicily (2012); “1912-2012: Chroniques d’un Parcours Creative” an exhibition celebrating one hundred years of creative history of Galleries Lafayette in Paris; In 2013, Pestellini also led the design for “Tools for Life,” a new furniture collection for Knoll.
Parallel to the collaboration with brands, Pestellini’s main activities include research and architecture with special focus on Italy and preservation. He has co-curated and designed “Cronocaos”, OMA exhibition at the 12th Architectural Venice Biennale, focused on the multiple and contradictory aspects of preservation. Since November 2009, Pestellini has been leading the transformation and strategic programmatic research for the 16th Fondaco dei Tedeschi in Venice. He has led the design proposals for the transformation of the 1950s Bologna Tobacco Factory into new research laboratories, and for the Bocconi University’s new Urban Campus in Milan.
Most recently, he has developed “Monditalia”, the multidisciplinary part of the14th International Architecture Biennale “Fundamentals”, dedicated to the current status of Italy, as a paradigmatic country of contemporary conditions.
His for work for OMA*AMO has been featured in selected magazines including A+U, L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui, MONU, GA, Flash Art, Domus and Architectural Review etc. He has been a visiting professor at several institutions such as SADI Institute, the Royal Academy, Politecnico di Milano, Strelka Institute for Media Architecture and Design, l’ Accademie de France a Rome, KTH Stockholm, Holon Design Museum, Centre Pompidou and La Maison de l’Architecture de Geneve.
